DR. TED MONTGOMERY RESIDENCE
Piedmont, California

Dr. Ted Montgomery's recent installation of a new four-manual 87 stop Allen Renaissance™ is truly remarkable. This new organ is the world's first residence installation of a new 87 stop Allen organ. It represents Dr. Montgomery's fourth instrument in his home, replacing a small residence pipe organ, and is his third Allen. In 2006, Dr. Montgomery had a factory upgrade installed, making this organ a Q465 Quantum™ organ!

As the accompanying photographs show, the residence is an outstanding example of Country French architecture. Since the only doors large enough to allow passage of the console were in the dining room, it was necessary to "fly" the console up and over the house, from the street below—"The Flying Organ!"

THE FLYING ORGAN!

Neighbors and friends wait for the action to start.

Out with the Old...In with the New!

The three-manual Allen that is
being replaced, comes out first.

In with the new four-manual—
sure hope the ropes hold!

Pray!!

Almost home!

Uncrate the new organ — thanks
be to the Almighty — no rain!!

It just fits through the door!

Above the fireplace and conversa-tion area is a lovely suspended library. This space is perfect for the amplifier system and the organs main audio systems. The arched doorway, visible behind the technicians leaning over the library rail, leads to a morning room, located off the master bedroom. The audio systems of the floating E.M. Skinner String Organ are installed in the morning room and the effect of the String Organ drifting from on high is truly quite remarkable.

The finished installation
Dr. Montgomery is very active in music and organ circles of the Bay Area and has been most gracious in sharing this outstanding installation with others.

J. Nelson & Company is most honored to have been selected to install and maintain his last two Allen installations.
